UPS with wrongful customs charges

I shipped a personal item via UPS from the US to Germany. I dropped it off on a Monday. On Wednesday, it was in Germany and could have been delivered on Friday. Although I had clearly declared the content of the package, UPS put customs on it. I saw this when the package was still in transit and contacted UPS. After several calls and e-mails, it was confirmed that they will take off the customs. However, the tracking site still showed them and on the next Monday, the driver could not hand over the package. I again had several calls with UPS. In the meantime, the tracking site claimed that there were delivery attempts on Tuesday and Wednesday, which was not true. The last person on the UPS hotline told me that everything should be fine, but for some reason, the driver does not what he should do. Then, in the end, the driver could be reached and instructed, and still, on Wednesday the package was delivered without customs.
So, it did not cost extra money, but lots of time and stress!
